LayLine, one of the premier specialty online marine retailers in the US, originated in 1986. Layline was acquired in February 2010 by sailors and Internet businessmen Travis and Devin Weisleder. The brothers have added Layline to its growing number of marquee online brands including ModernNursery.com, Pokkadots.com and Wallstickershop.com. The new and improved Layline brings you the best in class apparel, gear, rigging, and accessories, as well as relevant content, tips, tricks, and insight on the boats you sail. Travis Weisleder
President and CEO
Travis started sailing at age 5 in Bay Head, New Jersey. He travelled as a junior sailing Lasers internationally and competed in the Laser Worlds. Travis coached the US Optimist National Team and was also a European Coach. He was a member of the College of Charleston sailing team in the mid 90s.
After college, Travis headed up the sales and marketing for Escape Sailboat Company, makers of a learn-to-sail sailboat, for five years. He left Newport and moved to Richmond where he started InterActive Financial Marketing Group, a lead generation business for car dealerships, which he sold in 2007. He adds Layline to his growing number of marquee online brands including ModernNursery.com, Pokkadots.com and Wallstickershop.com.
Travis actively sails his J105 Lucky Dog, Melges 24 and Flying Scot. He is vice chairman of the International Melges 24 class and past president of the US M24 class. He is currently teaching his three young sons to sail Optimists.
Henry Mallard
Sales Manager
Henry started sailing at age 6 in a wooden sailfish with his brother and father on the coast in Wilmington NC. He continued in a Blue Jay, then as a teenager to a Jet 14 and in college started crewing on larger keel boats like the Morgan 24,27 & 30, Cal3-30, Pearson 33, Columbia 39 and many more. After college, Henry continued crewing on a series of C &C’s 30,34, 35 MKI & 39 and soon after bought a Ranger 26 “Tonto” with friends. Several years after that he began his professional boating career working with ace C-15 & 22, now MC sailor Jeff Annis in Augusta GA. Henry has since owned a Catalina 25 and 27, crewed on a Heritage 37 One Ton, Olson 40. He later bought a Capri-22 and finally a J/30.
Henry continued his boating career in North Carolina where he managed several sailboat dealerships and sold Cal, C & C, Tartan, Ericson, Catalina, and Moore’s. Henry started working for Layline almost 20 years ago. He resides in Raleigh with his wife and is a grandfather.
Henry notes that “For a boat gear head this is an absolutely wonderful job, there are so many different ways to rig boats, and so many wonderful customers who share the passion of go fast sailing, it is truly fun to come to work.”
Bill Wiggins
Sales Manager
Bill joined Layline in February 2010 after a number of years with West Marine Rigging where he was a sales manager and Custom and OEM Specialist as well as owning his own boat logistics company. He brings a wealth of knowledge to his job with his work and sailing experience. Bill has been sailing for the last 35 years. He began sailing as a child on a Sunfish at his lake house in Upstate New York and enjoyed many summers on the Bays of Lake Ontario. After getting out of the Coast Guard, Bill taught sailing for Offshore Sailing School on Captiva Island, FL. In 1993, he moved to Chicago to captain a Tripp 40 and a Nelson Merick 50. He also started racing Melges 24’s in the Great Lakes at this time. He has been racing Sport Boats ever since. Bill has participated in seven World Championships (J24 & M24) and has been crew on the National Champion Melges 32 (Star).
He currently owns a Melges 17 that he races with his wife Angie and also spends time racing an Ultimate 20 and J80 locally in the Carolinas. Bill stays busy following his son Jordan’s racing career which includes SAYRA and USODA Optimist sailing. Bill and his family reside in York, SC.
